Council discusses LED street lights

The city is considering converting all street lights to LED lights.

This would help conserve energy and money.

Real Term Energy who came forward to council with the proposition said the city could save upwards of $18,000 a year.

Currently, they say Timmins is spending over $700,000 a year on energy costs and maintenance.

They told council that the city wouldn’t have to cover any of the capital costs, and that the savings over 10 years would be split between Real Term Energy and the city.

Another benefit is that LED lights a brighter so they are visible from farther away.
