Ontario Northeast School Board spearheading green initiatives

The ONE School Board is using some green solutions to help fund changes to water fountains and greener initiatives in the Northeast. The Timiskaming District Secondary School in New Liskeard has 416 rooftop solar panels and is helping provide power to the area.

The funds raised from the solar project will be going to other ONE schools for new, eco-friendly water bottle filling stations. The District School Board Ontario North East says it will replace about 160 aging water fountains throughout the region.

The idea came from Jacob McGonigal, a student trustee from Kirkland Lake District Composite School.
