Timmins Syrian Refugee Committee meeting this week to go over recent developments

The Timmins Syrian Refugee Committee has a meeting tomorrow to go over the sponsorship process. Mayor Steve Black says they are going to be looking at their request for a second family. He says the committee is going to review the size of family requested, along with the ages. They will be considering if they need to change those requests to speed up the process, because it has been stalled for a couple months. Black says they were originally looking at targeting a younger family with kids that can get into the school system at an early age to help integrate into the community quicker.

The first family is still confirmed, but Black says there’s no way to know when they will be arriving in Timmins. He says the family is still going through all of the necessary checks before coming into Canada, and the timeline will all depend on that process.
