MNR reminding hunters about new baiting regulations as spring bear hunt approaches

The MNR is reminding hunters of some new laws coming into effect for this year’s spring bear hunt, which is just around the corner. It runs from May 1st to June 15th. The new baiting regulations will apply to both the spring and the fall bear hunts. Placing bait closer than 500 meters of a home or property and no fewer than 200 metres away from roadways is illegal.

Harvesting cubs or their female counterparts is also forbidden, as is hunting with 400 metres of a waste disposal area. The spring hunt pilot program is being expanded to 2020 thanks to feedback from the northern hunting community.
