Erratic driving on Highway 11 prompts an OPP reminder about distracted driving

The OPP is taking a recent distracted driving blitz as an opportunity to remind drivers to be safe. They say distracted driving doesn’t just mean texting, it’s anything that pulls focus from the road.  The police call driving a complex task, which requires your full attention. They say all distractions while driving endangers lives.

The OPP list the following as potential distractions: adjusting the stereo, searching for something in the car, eating or drinking while driving, using a hand-held device, grooming, watching television or other entertainment devices, tending to children in the back seat, and more.

This comes on the heels of a 32-year-old Hamilton man charged for distracted driving after driving a transport truck erratically along Highway 11. He is now facing four charges in total:

  • Careless Driving
  • Distracted Driving (hand-held communication device)
  • Fail to Maintain Daily Log
  • Fail to Surrender Insurance Card
