Northern College pleased with federal funding commitments as part of this year’s budget

Northern College is the latest to weigh in on the federal budget. The school is happy with the government’s recognition of post-secondary education in Canada. The new Post-Secondary Institutions Strategic Investment Fund is committing $2 billion to infrastructure funding over the next three years.

President Fred Gibbons says that money is going to be put to good use at the school. They plan to upgrade some of their buildings, and start several new construction projects. Gibbons says with this federal funding, they can now assess each project for funding eligibility and move forward accordingly.

The budget is also re-committing $5 million to the College and Community Innovation Program and $7 million for Social Sciences and Humanities Resource Council partnership grants. Gibbons says these programs let Northern partner up with local businesses and industries to solve real world problems.
