Politis not happy with the province over renewable energy projects

Cochrane isn’t taking a government decision to ignore the city for a renewable energy project laying down. Mayor Peter Politis says there is a disconnect when it comes to southern Ontario, and the interests of the north getting lost isn’t anything new.

The province awarded contracts to build 16 renewable energy plants, but bypassed the already existing plant in Cochrane. Politis calls that decision bizarre, saying the plant converts wood waste into energy, and the capital costs are already paid for. He says the waste that could have been used is now going to landfills.

Cochrane’s city council will continue to look for a use for the plant.
