The city of Timmins is pushing back a vote on their rural road policy. Changes are being looked at in terms of deciding which rural roads the city will take on and maintain.
Mayor Steve Black says the current policy says if homeowners on rural roads upgrade the street to a certain standard, the city will maintain it. That includes things like snowplowing. Black says all the policy change is doing is saying residents should come to council first to get approval to upgrade their road. That way, council will be agreeing to take on the road once it’s upgraded. Black says then they will get council permission before spending the dollars on upgrades.
However some councillors wanted to be able to look at the policy over the summer months, when the snow is gone, and they can see the condition of the roads in question. The issue will come back to the council table in July.
