NDP getting ready to press the Liberals over Nipigon Bridge failure

The New Democrats are getting ready to press the province for answers over the Nipigon Bridge failure. That message is coming from provincial NDP leader Andrea Horwath, who says they are prepared to ask the hard questions when the legislature resumes in a couple of weeks. She says the bridge failing has serious economic and safety impacts, and calls it unbelievable that it would fail in such a big way when it is essentially brand new.

Horwath says this is not only a debacle, but it’s a symbol of how infrastructure goes in the north. She has been speaking with representatives from smaller northern cities, and says they are beside themselves with the stress of crumbling infrastructure. She says they don’t have the budget to make those capital investments, and so they are at the whim of the provincial government in terms of getting some assistance.

Timmins is no stranger to this problem, as the city has been fighting for funding for our Connecting Link for months.
