A major part of the Trans-Canada highway has been shut down until further notice. This comes after the Nipigon River Bridge on Highway 17 split apart. The bridge is about 120 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay. The closure is expected to have a major impact on surrounding communities. Drivers now have no option to directly drive across the country, unless they take a long detour through the U.S.
