Council approves looking into an aquatic center

The city is going to start looking into putting in an aquatic center. Almost $160, 000 is going into the study. Mayor Steve Black says there are multiple locations being considered for the potential project.

“Five locations to look at around the city, to try and find what the best location is” explains Black. “So that we can move forward with construction, if council agrees to move forward after getting the feasibility study complete.”

Among the locations being considered are Archie Dillion, the Mac, and the Whitney Arena. There are also two unbuilt spots being considered, those are the Hollinger Park and ballfield, and a 15 acre property on Maclean.

Mayor Steve Black says the study looks at a few different things.

“It’s really designing, costing, and finding a location for it. It’s not a go-ahead for construction yet. Council hasn’t given that until we know what the total cost of the center will be.”
