Local businesses to pass the baton

Sign up a team or raise $100, and then pass on the baton. That’s the guideline for a Relay for Life fundraising initiative by the Cancer Society.

The baton pass is starting at Wacky Wings Wednesday afternoon at 3 PM. Once they complete either task, it will move on to another local business. The goal is to raise awareness and funds for the event, and to get new teams signed up. The Cancer Society says they are encouraging teams to set a distance goal, either on an individual or a team basis.

“2015 marks the 16th anniversary for Relay For Life in Ontario,” says a press release from the Canadian Cancer Society. “In the last 14 years, local residents have fought back against cancer at Relay For Life in Timmins and surrounding communities and raised more than $1,970,000.00 to fund life-saving research, support services for local patients and other important work that means fewer Canadians will be touched by the disease.”

 

The Relay for Life is on June 12th at O’Gorman. It runs from 6 PM until midnight,
