Canadian Blood Services begins a three-day clinic in Timmins as of Monday. The agency has set aside the third day of its drive in honour of Owen Fodchuk, a three-year-old Timmins boy. Owen has had heart problems from before he was born. His first surgery was when he was still in his mother’s womb at 25 weeks. The youngster was born prematurely and within days underwent emergency intestinal surgery and open heart surgery. Owen has already received 19 blood transfusions which have kept him alive. He’ll soon undergo another open heart procedure and Blood Services is shooting for 96 donors for the Wednesday clinic in honour of Owen. All three days of the clinic are at the St. Dominique Church Hall.
