Big festival this weekend

Organizers are promising that this year’s Great Canadian Kayak Challenge and Festival will be the biggest and best to date.  And when it comes to the biggest, that’s no exaggeration.  Numerous events are planned when the three day event gets underway later this week on Friday.   The three day event features dozens of events including paddling for virtually all ages.  Organizers have 10 paddling categories in place from novice to expert and ages range from six years to 77.   What started out as a paddling event is now a full blown festival with music as part of the program including a Saturday performance by The Philosopher Kings.  Saturday night also features the musical fireworks.  There’s a cultural side to the festival with First Nation themes and an extensive children’s play zone.  It all takes place at the Mountjoy Historical Conservation Park.  For more information about the festival, go to www.thegreatcanadiankayakchallenge.com and all event are free.
