Lightning Safety Week kicks off this Sunday

Being prepared for when the weather turns worse can be the difference of life and death.

That is according to Environment Canada Meteorologist Peter Kimbell, who says this week Lightning Safety Week begins on Sunday across the country.

Kimbell would like to remind the Timmins community that lightning accounts for more injuries in Canada than any other type of weather event.

He says the best way to avoid lightning is to take shelter immediately inside a house or all-metal automobile when you hear thunder.

Kimbell says you should always stay inside shelter until a minimum of 30 minutes has passed since the last rumble of thunder during a storm.

For more information on lightning safety you can go to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s website.
