Transport trucks are the target of a specialized campaign in Timmins. The OPP’s annual Operation Corridor runs today and tomorrow and officers are looking for safety issues with semi-trucks on northern highways.

Central Region OPP Acting Sergeant Mark Kinney says with one in five fatal crashes in Ontario involving a transport truck, this campaign is a necessity.

He says there have been over 300 deaths on Ontario highways between 2012 and 2016 that involved transport trucks.

A more recent OPP report also shows over the last three years, there were 344 collisions caused by faulty equipment on transport trucks, six of which were fatal.
