Northeastern Catholic School Board looking for a name for its new school in Timmins

The Northeastern Catholic District School Board is consolidating Sacred Heart and St. Paul’s into one school next school year, and that new school needs a name. The board is hosting a contest for anyone to enter to find the best name for the school, which is set to open in September 2017.

It will be a Kindergarten to Grade Four school. Once all of the submissions are in, the board will pick the top five names and then the public will be allowed to vote on those options.

The board is outlining some criteria for the new name:

  • Schools shall be designated as either “Catholic Elementary or Catholic Secondary School” in their official school name unless otherwise approved by the Board
  • The duplication of names within the Northeastern Catholic District School Board shall be avoided
  • The name of the school shall be such that it does not encourage inappropriate abbreviation or nicknaming
  • The final choice of a school name shall rest solely with the Board

Names can be emailed, called-in, shared on the website, mailed in, or dropped off at schools until November 7th.
