Feds looking to cut FedNor Minister position

The Liberals have introduced a new bill that will eliminate the formal position of the FedNor Minister.

Timmins-James Bay MP and NDP FedNor critic, Charlie Angus is asking what happened to the Liberal MP’s who promised to back the North. He says this is a clear the Liberal government is failing to deliver for Northerners.

Angus says this isn’t the first time the Liberals have failed residents living in Northern Ontario. He says on top of removing the FedNor Minister and maintaining cuts to FedNor funding and staffing, it was recently confirmed the Liberals will be cancelling broadband funding for two years in the North.

Angus says growing the economy in Northern Ontario will benefit the entire country and this is something the Liberals have failed to see.

Angus says the federal government needs to reverse these harmful decisions and make FedNor a standalone agency. He says we are the only region in the country without an independent, standalone agency and now we’re losing our minister.
