Goldcorp is being recognized as a resource champion by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The mining company was awarded with that title for their efforts to mine in a sustainable, transparent, and accountable way. Goldcorp was nominated for the award by the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, specifically because of their dedication to mitigating the impact of the Hollinger open pit.
On top of that, Tembec’s Chief Forester Al Thorne was also awarded in the individual category of the Resource Champion awards. That award is based on his work in drawing attention to the value of the resource sector.
The Canadian Chamber picks the winners based on a number of criteria, including organizations that support reducing negative environmental impacts of resource extraction.
